Cogent is expanding its services to support students at more stages of their academic and college journey.

Coming soon: comprehensive Freshman Year Academic & Extracurricular Prep, Junior Year Academic & Extracurricular Prep and Sophomore Year Academic & Extracurricular Prep, along with Subject Tutoring, SAT/ACT Preparation, Speech & Debate, BS/MD Program Prep, Research. These new offerings will build on Cogent’s personalized, strategic approach—helping students strengthen academics, develop important skills, explore opportunities, and prepare earlier and more confidently for college admissions and beyond.

Freshman Year Counseling

Build a strong foundation through GPA maximization, effective study habits, and strategic course planning, while developing meaningful extracurricular interests, passion projects, and leadership opportunities. Students strengthen communication, self-advocacy, and time-management skills and explore college, majors, and careers through exceptional college students and young professionals who share firsthand insights into their fields and experiences. Purposeful summer planning and personal development help build confidence, independence, and a clear path forward.

Sophomore Year Counseling

Build on freshman-year foundations through GPA maximization, course rigor, and strong academic habits, while developing depth and leadership in extracurriculars. Students begin SAT/ACT planning, explore research, internships, service, entrepreneurship, passion projects, and develop a purposeful summer strategy. College, major, and career exploration includes insights from exceptional college students and young professionals about their fields, experiences, and career opportunities, while continued personal and communication skill development prepares students for junior year.

Junior Year Counseling

Prepare strategically for college admissions through GPA and course rigor, SAT/ACT preparation, and stronger extracurricular depth and leadership. Students receive expanded major and career exploration, including insights from exceptional college students and young professionals across different fields. Guidance also covers college strategy and early list development, research and internships, purposeful summer planning, and application readiness, while strengthening skills for college and career success.

Speech & Debate Program

Cogent helps students build confidence, persuasive communication, and critical-thinking skills through structured speech and debate preparation. Students develop argumentation, research, evidence analysis, public speaking, and rebuttal skills, while learning to communicate ideas clearly and effectively. The program includes practice speeches, debate simulations, individualized feedback, and competition preparation, helping students strengthen both competitive performance and broader communication and leadership skills.

SAT Prep

Develop a personalized testing strategy based on each student’s strengths, goals, and target colleges. Guidance includes SAT vs. ACT selection, diagnostic assessment, target scores, customized preparation plans and resources, testing timelines, and retake strategy. Students also receive guidance on test-optional policies and when submitting scores can strengthen their overall application strategy.

Subject Tutoring

Personalized academic support designed to strengthen subject mastery, improve performance, and build confidence. Students are matched with qualified tutors based on their individual needs, courses, and academic goals, with support available across a range of subjects. Tutoring focuses on clarifying challenging concepts, strengthening foundational skills, and developing effective study and problem-solving strategies. Support can be tailored for ongoing coursework, advanced/AP classes, or specific areas where a student needs additional guidance.

BS/MD Program Course Preparation

Cogent provides comprehensive, personalized guidance for students pursuing highly competitive BS/MD programs, including assessing program fit and developing a balanced college list; strategically positioning academics, healthcare exposure, research, service, leadership, and other meaningful experiences; developing compelling essays and application materials that communicate motivation for medicine and personal impact; preparing for traditional and MMI-style interviews; and managing BS/MD-specific requirements, timelines, and supplemental applications alongside the broader college admissions process.

Research Program Preparation

Cogent introduces students to research opportunities across a range of academic fields and helps them identify topics aligned with their interests. Students learn how to explore research questions, connect with professors and research programs, and pursue independent research projects. They also gain access to accomplished college student researchers who share firsthand insights on how they found opportunities, approached professors, conducted independent research, and navigated the research process
